Yeah, i wish i could add a small fixed bottom footer to it as well, but it might not be possible… but a very unique idea for a theme indeed. Coders like you are artists.

I just redid my site using your theme. I really like it, but there is no RSS link! Also, I cannot get the side bar widget to show up, which is tough, because I was going to use that to add the RSS.
I am going to edit your header myself to add an RSS button in the top bar, but I’m no good at .php, that’s why I download free themes from people like you!

Also, this is by far the best portfolio theme I have seen yet. None of the others quite match up for a daily photo blog.

for some reason i can only see one post on the sites home page and others while being visible via categories arent showing up on the home page?

posted by mark rushworth on 05.10.10 at 7:11 pm

I have to agree with mark. I am only seeing 1 post on the home page and i do not see anywhere in the settings to change that.

How do i show multiple posts on the home page similar to your examples?

posted by Alec oliver on 05.25.10 at 2:19 pm

For those only seeing 1 post on the homepage this is most likely due to your installation and setup of WordPress. The first step is to check your reading setting in the admin (Settings > Reading) and make sure the option ‘Blog pages show at most’ is at least 30. If this hasn’t fixed your issue please let us know.

Can this theme also be used for WPMU sites?

posted by Stef on 06.09.10 at 8:08 pm

@admin

Thanks. I tried it.. but it isn’t quite working as it should. Although I think it is a matter of some small adjustments, which I hope you guys can help me with.

This is the site:
http://regionofinterest.com/testportfolio

The errors:
The display of the post has a align error and isn’t showing the thumbnail.
The adminbar on the frontpage is removed. On a post page the adminbar is there but showing the text a bit weird. (http://regionofinterest.com/testportfolio/test/)

I think that’s it.
I’ve installed the Simple Post Thumbnails plugin & The Excerpt-Reloaded on a site-wide base..

Thanks for helping!
Stef

posted by Stef on 06.11.10 at 9:17 am

@Stef In WordPress MU, you need to enable plugins before you can activate them. It looks like the excerpt reloaded plugin isn’t installed as it’s throwing out an error.

In the WordPress MU admin, you should go to ‘Options’ under ‘ Site Admin’ and right at the bottom, enable plugins. Can you check that is enabled? Then the plugin must be activated in the normal WordPress way.

Let me know how that goes.

The plugin Simple Post Thumbnails isn’t WPMU ready.
So I guess I’m pretty doomed here. Or are there alternatives for this plugin?

Hi! First of all, thanks for this amazing theme. I need some advice on it, though. I installed it on my wordpress and apparently it’s all good, but when you see the site, the posts are stacking on top of each other, instead of staying side by side.

You can check that for yourself: guzforster.com

Can someone help me on this?

@Kevin – Seems you may have uploaded the theme incorrectly or incomplete. Follow the setup guidelines in the help file included to see if you can fix the issue.

posted by admin on 07.05.10 at 10:28 am

Hi Stef,

I’ve checked this in an installation of WP3 and it seems to work fine for me.
A few things to check when using it with WP3 are:

- Upload the theme folder into the wp-content/themes folder as you would normally (foliogrid/foliogrid_dark/foliogrid_yellow…whichever or all).
- Upload the two plugins into wp-content/plugins folder (‘simple-post-thumbnails’ and ‘the-excerpt-reloaded.php’).
- The theme must be checked for use under Super Admin -> Themes.
- The plugins must be enabled for use on each of the installations. This is at the very bottom of Super Admin -> Options. Make sure the box is checked as these plugins are needed for the site to work properly.

After that, it should work fine. If it still isn’t working fine, please let us know what additional plugins there are in there in case any are causing conflict with the site.
Or if we can preview it somewhere, please send a link across and I’ll happily take a look for you.

Hope that helps!

On another note, we’re undergoing a rebuild of the site and also FolioGrid. It will allow for more options, better posting of images and videos and plenty more theme colours than the current version. Also our custom built framework will mean no more need to install plugins to get it working. The theme alone will do the job for you. Keep your eyes peeled for that one!

Take care,

Nick

Loved FolioGrid, and tried today at http://tarrask.com/portfolio/

It’s working on WordPress 3.0 with Multisite, and I only had one issue, but probably is some mistake I’ve done.

The thumbs don’t work, but even without that, it’s working nice.

Tried quitting all the plugins, but the thumb image don’t load.

Do you have any ideas?

posted by Alex Luna on 07.21.10 at 8:07 pm

@Alex

If no error messages are being displayed the cause may be due to directory permissions. Make sure /wp-content/thumbnails/ has rwxr-xr-x (755) permissions. This is typically the cause of the issue.

posted by admin on 07.21.10 at 9:00 pm

Hey guys,

This is an incredibly elegant theme; i’m looking forward to seeing the Pro version.

FWIW, I’ve tweaked single.php to include widgets; I may give the main page a go tonight with the footer but I think the dynamic/fluid nature may be my downfall. I know this is all good to do with the CC license, but it would be nice to see more widget functionality in the pro theme – more options means more customization means more sales, right?

Hey, thanks for the great theme.

I am having the same issue as Alex with the thumbnails not showing on the home page.

I made sure that the /wp-content/thumbnails/ has rwxr-xr-x (755) folder has your recomended settings.

I went trough all the media and thumbnail settings.
I have tried both hot linking and uploading the thumbnail image.
Even if i set a default image to appear it will not.

Here is a screen shot of the preview after i upload or hot link an image.
http://i.imgur.com/I5BS1.jpg ( note how the preview image box has decreased in size. )

Simple Post Thumbnails and the_excerpt Reloaded are installed
adblock is off.

Any ideas?

Looking forward to see what you guys add to the pro theme. Do you have an ETA?

Cheers

I like some others here am not able to get thumbs to work. Am thinking it is maybe a path/domain issue as all plugins are active and permissions are correct? It is a DNS zone?
Ideas?

posted by Jake on 07.27.10 at 7:06 am

@Jake @Ivor
Which version of WordPress are you using? I think there may be some problems with that plugin and WP3/WPMU. If you are sing WP3 multiuser or WPMU, please make sure plugins are allowed to be used by going to ‘Options’ under ‘Super Admin’ and checking the box at the very bottom of the form to allow plugins to be used throughout.

With our new build (hopefully ready in the next few weeks or so to coincide with the rebuild of frogsthemes.com) we will be building our own image uploader and post options into the theme, so no plugins will need to be installed or activated. It’s well under way at the moment and is looking great so far :)

@eggchops,
Thanks for the attention,
I upgraded to PHP 5 which resolved the layout issue (stacking vertically vs. horizontally) but not the thumbnail issue.

I have no super admin option on my panel

posted by Jake on 07.27.10 at 10:07 pm

Hello Folks,

thanks for the fast answer.

It was not a permissions issue (the thumbs is 755, and I tried 775 and 777 with no results), and it may be because of 3.0 MU. Im not in the root site (its tarrask.com/portfolio), and wordpress is installed in tarrask.com, but all the plugins are installed.

Maybe it can give you a hint to your new version upgrade.

Right now, my thumbs don’t work, but everything else is fine.

greets,

Alex

posted by Alex Luna on 07.29.10 at 4:49 pm

@Alex We think there are issues with the post thumbnails plugin not working in WP3 or WPMU. Good news is that our new version of FolioGrid will use a custom built image uploader, so will overcome that issue. We’re testing it in everything from WordPress 2.7+, so should cover all bases.

@Jake Is the uploader working, but the image is not displaying on the front end of the site? It could be to do with paths then. Is there a preview you can direct us to at all? Again, this is something that will be fixed in the new release…which we’re hoping isn’t too far away now!

hi, really really love this theme. beautiful.
a few question:
1. can we manually adjust the size and crop position of the thumbnail. it crops automatically now.
2. can i make multiple categories? say i’d like to make several artists portfolio with different categories.

can you help me with this?
when will the pro version launched?

manya many thx!

hate to bug you for help but…HEEELLLPP! i too am having thumbnail issues but i feel it may be a path issue as you mentioned. i read the “read me” txt file and it states “4. Add the `p75GetThumbnail(int $postID, [int $width, [int $height, [string $fileType]]])` function to your theme to get the URL of a thumbnail and `p75GetOriginalImage(int $postID)` to get the URL to the original image.”

Sorry if I expose my blond side here but where exactly do I input this info? I have a feeling this will cure my thumbnail blues. ty so much for any assistance…and of course, the theme kicks a**!

Hi there!
I would like to join the masses of people saying thank you for this nice theme.

I would love to use it but I can’t get it to work… my index page is just empty. I have the menu on top but that is all… no text, no photo, nothing! I tried to update my last article to see but nothing changed. I am using WP3.
Any suggestions?

Thank you.

posted by Cedric on 08.11.10 at 5:04 am

@andrew

Thanks for your kind words. Always great to hear positive feedback :)
In answer to your questions:

1. You can adjust the height and width of the crop in the options for the plugin. Unfortunately, you can’t adjust the crop position.
2. If you mean multiple portfolios in one place with the dropdown of categories for each one, I don’t think that is possible with one installation. What you could do is use WordPress 3 and the multi-site functionality to create multiple sites under one installation (one for each artist). That way you could add categories to each one. Multi-site would have the URLs in the format http://www.domain.com/artist1/ and http://www.domain.com/artist2/ etc. That is the only way I can think of having multiple portfolios on the one site…

The pro version is getting ever closer. We just want to make sure everything is ship shape before we launch. The frogsthemes.com site will also be changing at the same time for a refresh and to accommodate the pro version, a better support system, ticketing and wiki. Hopefully in the next few weeks! If you haven’t already subscribed to our emailer, please do and we’ll send you a quick ‘hello’ once we do go live.

Do you have an example of this that we can see? That way I can take a look and let you know what’s going on. It could be a number of things, that’s all. Hopefully it shouldn’t be anything too weird :S

Nick

posted by Eggchops on 08.12.10 at 10:00 am

@Cedric

Have you installed the plugins in the foliogrid.v1/Plugins/ folder? If it’s erroring like that, it usually means that the thumbnail plugin isn’t installed or activated.

The updated version should get around this as we’ll be using a custom built uploader and resizer to handle the images.

Nick

posted by Eggchops on 08.12.10 at 10:04 am

@beirut

That’s ok, that’s what we’re here for! :)

Having looked at the site, it looks like the code is there and trying to do the work. The image it is trying to resize is also there. The URL in the image all looks fine.
So all seems a bit strange…is the file ‘timthumb.php’ in the folder ‘wp-content/plugins/simple-post-thumbnails/’?

The updated version won’t have this issue as we’re using a custom built uploader and resizer. So if you’re signed up to the newsletter, we’ll drop you a line once the new version is out :)

Let me know about the file mentioned above and if it’s there, I’ll have another think…

Nick

posted by Eggchops on 08.12.10 at 10:17 am

ok, what i have is the “the-excerpt-reloaded.php” file in wp-content/plugins/ and the other two files (“timthumb.php” and “thumbnail-poster.php”) in wp-content/plugins/simple-post-thumbnails/. Is this correct? Well obviously not as things are not working. Have I placed the flies in the wrong location?

OK! Had a comp savvy friend check out my permissions from behind the scenes, for some reason, my uploaded files through the wp post gives the images a different owner ID than myself. so i changed that to me, but still no go, i then changed the permission for each image to 755, no go again. then i thought maybe the perms for the two php files were not set to execute, they were not so i 755′d them, still nothing…i’m at a loss and am now just flailing like a fish out of water…i really would love to use this theme but i’ve been fighting for a week…sigh

Category pages still stacking in Safari – checked – same on ipad. Works fine on PC. All other FolioGrid websites view correctly in Safari, so problem seems isolated to my site when viewed in Safari.

posted by Ross on 08.14.10 at 12:27 am

@beirut Those files are in the same place. The plugins seem to be doing something as they’re trying to call the right pages. Do you also have the GD graphics extension for PHP enabled on your server?
If it still doesn’t work, all is not lost as it should be fine in the new release. The theme has also had a slight makeover and isn’t too far away now, so there’s some positives to looks forward to :)

posted by Eggchops on 08.14.10 at 1:20 pm

@Cedric No worries, it’s an easy thing to do :)
Yes, the images will need to be added through the plugin to show them in as thumbs on the home page. Hopefully there shouldn’t be any issues with Lightbox in the new release, we’ll check that along the way too though…thanks for the heads up :)

posted by Eggchops on 08.14.10 at 1:23 pm

@Ross Just checked it in Safari on my MacBook and it seems fine to me. A couple of things to do are to clear your cache and try it again and also check that Javascript is turned on. Let us know if that helps.

Finally! Somehow, I managed to make the thumbnails! It’s a problem with timthumb and not Foliogrid itself and is a cache problem.

For those of you using the awesome Foliogrid theme still stuck on how to make the thumbnails work, who can’t wait for FrogsThemes guys to release the new theme, here’s a rundown:

- CREATE a cache folder. My WordPress installation somehow did not have a cache folder. I created one and voila, it worked.

- MAKE SURE the path to your cache folder is accurate. If you go to this line in the timthumb.php:

// set path to cache directory (default is ./cache)
// this can be changed to a different location
$cache_dir = ‘./cache’;

ensure that the path to cache is according to the depth level of timthumb.php script. This link should help you: http://bit.ly/cpN4dT . .scroll down to Change cache folder part.

- CHMOD the cache folder to 777 or 775. In simple words, set the permission of the cache folder to 777 or 775 to make it writable.

That’s it. It should be working now. :)
